More Than Just Burgers and Fries
Burger Planet is adding additional options to its traditional menu

Gary, IN- Salads, fruit and lettuce wraps are a few of the changes Burger Planet is adding to its menu.  Starting in May Burger planet will be serving these new additions to the menu at all Burger Planets nationwide.

“I want our customers to realize that Burger Planet is committed to offering healthy choices on its menu,” CEO James E. Muellenbach III said.

Burger Planet has recently hired popular fitness expert Jayne Petersen to promote their new healthy line of food.  Petersen is known for her recent success with Opal Whitcomb.  Petersen stresses the importance of moderation, fruits, vegetables and walking, all of which Burger Planet agrees with.

Apart from the traditional favorites, Burger Planet will be offering white meat chicken breasts; gourmet Caesar, spinach and raspberry salads; and banana, pineapple, grape, apple and peach fruit packages- each less than 300 calories.  All sandwiches may also be served without the bun, a good alternative for any Atkins or South Beach diet.  “The company believes in encouraging customers to live healthier, active lifestyles,” Petersen said.

With this new health line, Burger Planet plans to inspire the nation to eat healthier and in moderation.  “I emphasize a message of moderation,” Jayne Petersen says, “Women can have a burger and fries now and then as long as they are active and also try some of Burger Planet’s exciting new menu choices.”

Petersen will be supervising Burger Planet chefs and is in the process of developing tray liners that offer nutritional advice.  Petersen will be accompanied by Burger Planet’s mascot Corny the Clown at various events throughout the nation promoting Burger Planets new healthy line of food.  The pair will host a kick-off ceremony May 12 at the Burger Planet Franchise in Times Square.  Commercials starring Petersen and Corny will start airing May 14.  Corny will be visiting Burger Planets across the nation in June, and shopping malls across the nation in July.

Founded in 1934, Burger Planet has served 52 billion customers and counting.  Burger Planet is the leader of the Quick Service Industry with 8,921 franchises in every state and 17 countries.

JCOM 2160 Reading 2

After looking at all this resume advice I definitely think I need to redo mine! There were a lot of good tips throughout the readings. One thought was mentioned a couple times, it said that every line on your resume is there to get you and interview. I thought that was great because that is your ultimate goal. It was interesting that it was recommended to put a link of your resume on your Facebook, Twitter and other accounts. More and more employers are looking at people’s web accounts and finding more information about individuals. Something interesting that I didn’t know was that you shouldn’t put references on your resume unless requested to do so, and if it is requested bring a separate sheet in just for references. I loved how resumes were compared to first dates, list your good qualities but not all of them, leave them hanging, the interview is where you really need to shine.

JCOM 2160 Reading 1

One of the most important things I think that was stressed through the readings was to remember that you are communicating with humans. It emphasized the golden rule which I think is important in any situation. The Purdue website was helpful for learning how to compose emails to others you haven’t met before like professors for example, which will come in handy. It was also good to learn that even though you think your emails are private, they are saved and the recipient may forward or save the email. Conversational cheap shots was funny, it reminded me of some of the answers I have received from my parents.

United Breaks Guitars

United Breaks Guitars
While whistling to “United Breaks Guitars” several times throughout the day, I have contemplated the strategies United Airlines has taken in response to Dave Carroll.
There is no doubt that many passengers who have flown United, or any airline for that matter, have had damaged luggage. But that is a risk that you should know you are taking when checking luggage on a plane. Many times I have been on board an aircraft watching luggage load onto to plane, thrown would probably be a better word.
Initially I would have to agree with United. In reality something is bound to be tampered with or impaired in the millions of pieces of luggage dealt with. Travelers unconsciously should expect that something might happen to their property, it’s almost inevitable. The fact that Carroll would get compensated but others filing claims wouldn’t doesn’t seem fair.
Carroll was in the public spotlight though, through his Youtube videos, and various talk show and newscast visits it was obvious that United had to address something concerning Carroll’s situation. The way that they handled it though was poorly. Searching online there was very little on United response to Carroll. Finally United announced on Twitter that they would be donating $3,000 to a music charity, after all that they announced it on Twitter! Ironic because Carroll’s guitar was $3,500. Very un-classy if you ask me.
Certainly this was a learning experience and policy changing for United. But does the public know that? United could have spun this into a great public relations campaign letting the public know that this does not usually happen and that things will be implemented. This could have been a great advertising and public relations platform. Letting the blame settle on themselves, admitting that they aren’t perfect is a great way to start. Using frequent flyers, long time clients and celebrities testifying of their experience and confidence in the airline could have built the foundation of their PR campaign.
Dave Carroll was extremely lucky, his music was promoted immensely. Talk shows and newscasts were awesome PR- yes it was non-paid. Although it was unfortunate for his guitar to break, it was really a blessing in disguise, boosting his career. Millions of hits his Youtube videos and links to his website through many articles written about him were great promotion. He definitely played his cards right.

Letters to Cousin

Dear Joe,
As you know I have been attending Utah State University for the past two years. Go Aggies! The main topic of focus that I have chosen to study is Public Relations. I know you are thinking, “what in the world is Public Relations, and what do people in Public Relations do?” I know I thought that when I first started. Well, PR people do a lot actually.
Basically Public Relations helps organizations achieve their goals and objectives while communicating with the public, governments, stockholders, employees and anyone else involved or concerned. It is very important to be able to build and maintain relationships. Equally important is the ability to express yourself through presentations as well as the written word. Although many people joke about PR professionals as liars, we are taught that being ethical is a number one priority.
PR professional jobs can range anywhere from event planning, to research, to promoting the next U.S. Open. You will begin to notice PR is everywhere. The BP oil crisis is swarming with PR- those professionals are trying to salvage the company image by putting a positive spin on the clean up efforts. Even the latest college athletic conference fiasco deals with PR.
Can’t wait to see you at the football game in October, till then,
Sincerely your favorite cousin,
Maddy
